The Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS develops advanced high-performance ceramic materials, industrial manufacturing processes as well as prototype components and systems in complete production lines up to the pilot-plant scale. In addition, the research portfolio also includes materials diagnostics and testing. Our development work is derived from the needs of the nine market-oriented business areas: energy, water, environmental and process engineering, mechanical and automotive engineering, electronics and microsystems, bio- and medical technology, materials and processes as well as non-destructive testing and monitoring. Our motivation is to develop sustainable and economical system solutions and services for our partners from industry and science that offer solutions to challenges facing society as a whole, such as resource scarcity, energy transition, and digitalization. With more than 800 employees at 13 sites, Fraunhofer IKTS represents Europe‘s largest R&D institute dedicated to the study of ceramics.
